The interpreter’s voice is their tool of the trade, and without the proper care, this indispensible tool can suffer irreparable damage. If the interpreter loses their voice, they lose their job.
Vocal training and care is as important for an interpreter as it is for a singer or an actor. Interpreters deal with many of the same conditions and requirements that singers and actors do, including the need to modulate volume, project sound, enunciate with clarity, speak for long periods without rest and perform in less than ideal environments, even when sick, hoarse and coughing.
This workshop will help anybody who employs their voice as their tool of trade improve their diction, voice projection and resonance, clarity, stamina and vocal health as well as help reduce sick days and address the challenges of working when sick, among other benefits. The “News Anchor English” and “How to Prevent Losing Your Voice” vocal workshops are being presented in partnership with the Tennessee Association of Professional Interpreters and Translators (TAPIT) and the kind support of the Tennessee Language Center (TLC, formerly TFLI).
